Hello Friends and Family,

Adults and Kids alike are invited to attend a super-fun dance workout called “Zumba” and help our daughter Brooke’s public school in Potrero Hill to fund sports, dance and music programs for the kids next year. I have become a Zumba enthusiast in the past year and two of my instructors agreed to give a benefit for Brooke’s school. The Zumba community is a large and loving group of folks! Their motto is “Ditch the workout, join the party!”

Zumba is set to Latin music and combines a cardio dance workout with salsa, the cha-cha, merengue and other Latin dances. It is a fun workout for all ages and fitness levels. I promise you a good sweat and a good time!

This event will be held this Sunday, April 18th, 2010.

Registration begins at 10:00am and the classes are from 10:30am-11:30am.

Adults $20, Kids $5 (ages 5+)

There will be a separate class for kids and adults.

Upcoming Events!

Hello everyone!

Happy Saturday night!  What a great start to the weekend: I saw AVATAR (finally!) in 3D with Zack last night and it was simply amazing!  What an incredible visual display and great story – I just hope people pick up on the not-so-subtle environmental messages throughout the movie.  It almost felt like the planet was an underwater world filled with sea anemones and soft corals (that’s the scuba diver side of me coming out).

Today, I went up to San Rafael with Morgan to shake our tailfeathers with Efren (a fellow Zumba Instructor) at his free class at this gorgeous dance studio in Marin.  And the Wall Street Journal was there doing an article on fitness happiness (ooh, maybe we’ll be famous!)  I always love meeting new instructors in the area and taking their classes (always good to “steal” great ideas too!)

Then, I had a coffee date at Philz (yum! philtered soul all the way), which felt like talking to a long-lost sister-friend.  All in all, a great start to the weekend!

Just don’t forget an EXTRA Zumba class tomorrow morning at 9am at 24 Hour Fitness Potrero!!  We will rock it!

About Zumba Fitness:

Zumba® is a Latin-inspired cardio workout that fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy to follow moves to create a dynamic fitness program that will blow you away. It is all about having fun and no experience is necessary! Latin rhythms include merengue, salsa, cumbia, reggaeton, belly dancing, samba, hip hop, and many more. So ditch the workout, join the party!

About the Jade Ribbon Campaign:

The greatest health disparity between Asian Americans and white Americans is the prevalence of chronic hepatitis B infection and the high incidence of liver cancer, 80% of which is caused by chronic hepatitis B infection. One in 10 Asian and Pacific Islander (API) Americans have chronic hepatitis B infection compared with 1 in 1,000 of Caucasian Americans. In May 2001, the Asian Liver Center launched the Jade Ribbon Campaign in the San Francisco Bay Area to spread awareness about hepatitis B and liver cancer in the Asian community. The objective of the campaign is to increase awareness and provide ethnic-sensitive health information to the API community and health professionals in an effort to reduce this major health disparity and improve API health.

Hello everyone!

I wanted to you all to know about this event FIRST, so here are all of the details that I have as of right now.  I actually just met with my other planning partner in the Stanford PE Department THIS MORNING.  I’m now working on coordinating with all of my other Zumba Instructor friends in the Bay Area – I really want to get a lot of instructors out there for this event to make it incredibly fun and high energy!  But most importantly, there is nothing like a crazy Zumba party without YOU! So let’s make this Zumba Party HUGE – please invite all of your friends and family to join us! I’m excited already!!

Zumba love,

Alena

Halloween Zumba and Happy November!

Good morning!

I hope you all remembered to set you clocks back – mine automatically reset and I still slept in until past 10am…which yes, was actually 11am, but whatever, it’s been a long week…

Yesterday, we enjoyed some morning Zumba action down at Market Street with Carlie, Pablo, Claire and the rest of the 24 Hour Fitness crew.  Although there were a few of you all MIA yesterday with the Pelosi Press Conference over in Chinatown.  I hope that went well!

And really, is one Zumba class ever enough?  Yesterday afternoon Rossy had her official Zumba launch party at Mobu Dance Studio in Noe Valley and it was a blast!  Some new and old Zumba friends showed their support and we even had a crowd of Halloween-clad youngsters looking in and dancing on the sidewalk.  A perfect way to start Halloween!

Today we have another weekend Zumba party over at Cafe Cocomo and I will be leading a few fun and fabulous songs – get excited!

And also, since it’s a Sunday, I can’t help but mention my excitement over the Baltimore Ravens kicking the Denver Broncos booties today!  30-7!!  Yay!!

Getting ready for the Zumba Party in Redwood City!

I just got back from a delicious brunch with the bf at the Butler and Chef Bistro in South Park over here in SOMA.  I had the quiche of the day, a scrumptous salmon and spinach one with the fluffiest filling.  And there was even enough for some leftovers – always a bonus!

I’m getting ready to take the train down to Redwood City for the Zumba Fever Party organized by Dancing to Fitness!  I’m so excited that there are finally Zumba events and activities in the Bay Area.  I’ve heard about how much fun they are from other instructors and students around the country and it is about time Zumba had gotten big enough on the West Coast to have some of these parties!  And now I just have to decide on which 2-3 songs I want to showcase as a guest instructor.  Batuka Bum Bum is always a favorite!

Zumba Fever Party on September 19th

Hello everyone!

After coming back from the Zumba Convention last week, I’ve been excited to get back into all of those special Zumba events around the Bay Area.  Ivonne Tamirez from Dancing to Fitness is hosting a Zumba Fever Party in Redwood City, CA on September 19th from 5:00pm-8:00pm.  I met Ivonne at the Zumba Basics 2 Workshop down in Santa Cruz last March and she is just such a beautiful dancer.  I wouldn’t miss her Zumba Party for the world, so come join me in Redwood City on Septmeber 19th!
